Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work on structural steel and pipe welding under a CWI. The role focuses on fit-up verification, WPS compliance, and thorough visual inspections to ensure quality and safety on active job sites.

You will maintain weld maps and logs, coordinate with NDT staff, and advance toward CWI certification with company sponsorship. Travel to project sites and overtime may occur as required.

Qualifications

• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about what a weld looks like.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing (UT/MT/PT) with NDT technician and record results.
