Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance, and perform visual inspections to the governing code.

The role includes maintaining inspection logs and weld maps and coordinating with NDT personnel. The position offers exposure to AWS D1.1 and related codes, with potential progression toward Welding Inspector II after certification.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active steel erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld appearance.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT with the NDT technician and record results.
