Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, review WPS/PQR documents, and perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing codes.

The role includes maintaining inspection logs and coordinating NDT with the NDT technician. The ideal candidate holds an AWS CAWI or is eligible to sit for the CWI exam, with strong attention to detail and ability to work on active sites.

Qualifications

• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Attention to weld quality and conformance to codes.
• Ability to work at height and in confined spaces on active sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT tech and record results.
