Welder - Structural

This position requires the ability to join steel components or metal plates using blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions through the application of heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operate Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
2. Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, and operate valves to release the gas mixture.
3. Adjust the flame to reach the desired temperature, size, and color by burning the torch and controlling the gas and air flow.
4. Preheat workpieces for welding or shaping using a torch.
5. Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces and make bulges thin and curves in metal workpieces.
6. Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. Clean or degrease weld joints or work areas using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
7. Remove excess weld material, slag, and spatter using carbon arc gouges, hand scrapers, grinders, or power chippers.
8. Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to access work areas.
9. Select appropriate weld locations based on type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of the metal to protect the torch.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
