Job Overview

The Welder - Structural will be responsible for joining steel components or metal plates using blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions through heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
2. Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, adjusting valves to release the mixture.
3. Preheat workpieces for welding or curving using a torch, reaching the required temperature, size, and color of flame.
4. Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces, and make bulges thin and curves in metal workpieces.
5. Manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal; clean or degrease weld joints using wire brushes, grinders, or chemical baths.
6. Remove excess weld, slag, spatter, and defective weld material using appropriate tools.
7. Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to access work areas.
8. Select appropriate weld locations based on metal type, thickness, area, and temperature considerations.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
