Qualifications

Job description

Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines for the US Navy. We are currently experiencing a period of unprecedented growth and are seeking individuals eager to learn and grow within our Welding Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

Welding at Electric Boat involves working with a wide variety of materials and welding processes. Welders participate in continuous training and must qualify for each process, using both conventional and state-of-the-art equipment.

Duties include:
  1. Welding structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation of submarine components.
  2. Using pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
  3. Performing oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging, and verifying weld size with gauges.
  4. Reading and interpreting weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages.
  5. Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma/GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant welding experience
Preferred:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Additional training from Vocational, Technical, Community Colleges, or Apprentice programs
  • Military shipbuilding, manufacturing, or automotive experience
  • Completion of the CT Department of Labor Eastern Workforce Investment Board Training Program
  • Knowledge and experience in pipe welding
Skills
  • Ability to work all shifts and in various environments, including radiological areas
  • Ability to interpret welding procedures, structural drawings, manuals, and diagrams
  • Willingness to accept road job assignments
  • Own basic hand tools
Physical Qualifications

Climbing, crawling, heavy lifting, kneeling, light and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting.

Environmental Attributes

Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, inside and outside environments, noise, oily conditions, wet conditions.
