OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Fabricates, assembles, installs, and welds metal components according to layout plans and blueprints. Assembles and installs pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Welds metal parts together, using gas welding, brazing, or arc welding processes.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases the size of metal parts.
- Positions and clamps components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto workpieces.
- Operates fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Hammers, chips, and grinds workpieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
- Preheats workpieces using hand torch or furnace.
- Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
- Verifies conformance of workpieces to specifications using measuring tools.
- Fabricates and assembles sheet metal products.
- Sets up and operates machine tools associated with fabricating shops.
- Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Assembles and installs equipment such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails using hand and power tools.
- Aligns machine components and equipment using hoists, jacks, and measuring tools.
- Assembles machine components and fastens them to foundations or structures.
- May operate engine lathe for grinding, filing, and turning machine parts.
- Cuts, threads, bends, assembles, installs, and connects pipes, tubes, and fittings.
- Secures pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
OTHER DUTIES
- Performs other duties as required.
- May be assigned as project lead.
- Responsible for cleaning work area.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience required.
- Previous experience leading employees.
- Welding experience.
- Ability to read blueprints.
