Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-driven Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator / Welder Fabricator to join our aggregates operations team. This dual-role position is split evenly between operating heavy mobile equipment and performing welding and fabrication duties. The successful candidate will support production goals by safely and efficiently handling aggregate materials and maintaining mobile and plant equipment through expert-level welding and metalwork.

Day to Day Responsibilities

Heavy Equipment Operation

  • Actively promote safety awareness and continuous improvement through positive recognition.
  • Comply with all industry safety rules, procedures, and applicable government regulations.
  • Operate at least 2 pieces of mobile equipment (haul truck, farm tractor, water truck, rubber tire backhoe, front loader, etc.).
  • Operate equipment in quarry and daily hauling of material from mine pit to stockpile, plant, or hopper.
  • Perform walk-around pre-shift safety inspections and workplace inspections.
  • Identify safety problems or concerns and report unsafe conditions to Supervisor.
  • Communicate with load and unload areas, haul materials safely to designated areas, and maintain safe speed.
  • Operate a front-end loader to efficiently and accurately load customer trucks and maintain stockpiles.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors and customers serviced.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform structural and equipment repairs as a Welder Fabricator (MIG, Stick, Arc) on plant equipment, mobile machinery, and facility structures.
  • Fabricate and modify parts, guards, chutes, and frames using cutting torches, grinders, and other metalworking tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to complete welding/fabrication projects accurately.
  • Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with safety and quality standards.
About You

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial or aggregates environment.
  • Proficient in various welding techniques (MIG, Stick, Arc); ability to pass a weld test if required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with mobile and fixed equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Prompt, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Positive, team-based attitude.
  • The ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, walk, climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks up to 60 feet as required.
  • The ability to work in varied outdoor environments (cold, hot, dry, dusty, rainy).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Welding or fabrication certification (e.g., AWS) or equivalent formal training.
  • Experience in a quarry, sand & gravel, or similar industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with MSHA regulations and safety best practices in an aggregates environment.
  • Ability to operate additional machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, or manlifts.
Working Conditions and Physical Environment
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, noise, vibration, dust, and uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work at heights.
  • May require use of PPE including welding helmet, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • While most equipment has air conditioning, there will be times when other responsibilities may require periods of work in all weather conditions.
