Job description

Position: Welder

Summary: Fabricates and welds various metals from sheet stock to heavy plate using TIG, MIG, stick welding, and occasionally brazing. Work involves basic hand tools, jigs, fixtures, and precision measuring devices.

Responsibilities:

• Works independently on fixturing weldments and creates tooling for new jobs.
• Interprets blueprints, weld symbols, machining requirements, and datums.
• Collaborates with manufacturing, quality control, and engineering to resolve issues.
• Trains and mentors lower-level welders.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and professional work environment, adhering to policies and safety practices.
• Establishes effective relationships with team members and management.
• Follows GSM Code of Ethics and all applicable laws.

Qualifications:

• Expert knowledge of military and AWS welding specifications.
• Understanding of manufacturing principles affecting weldments.
• Proficient blueprint reading, including weld symbols and machining requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of NDT processes.
• Familiarity with all internal weld procedures and operational procedures.
• Ability to operate manual vertical mills, saws, grinders, and overhead cranes safely.
• Expertise in all welding processes used by GSM (GTA, GMA, SMA).
• Ability to pass all welder qualification tests on the first attempt.
