Job description

Overview

The Fabrication Welding Technician is responsible for a variety of welding duties, including performing multiple welding processes such as fusion welding on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The role involves layout and fabrication of precision weldments from blueprints using industry-standard methods, completing work orders timely, ensuring the availability and proper functioning of required items, and maintaining safety standards. The technician maintains welds on various items using processes like manual arc, tungsten inert gas, metallic inert gas, brazing, cement core drilling, sheet metal, steam-fitting, and more, on items such as gym bleachers, safety bars, lockers, carts, steamers, tools, electric motorized gates, and recreational equipment, to ensure safety and functionality.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in welding, fabrication, and design.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Job Duties

  • Repair metal surfaces like doors, drain covers, fences, gates, grates, furniture, tools, parts, electric motorized gates, and sheet metal to ensure safe and efficient use.
  • Install items such as backboards, serving lines, railings, fences, and re-wire trailer lights to complete projects safely and on time.
  • Maintain shop, equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure availability and safety.
  • Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure resource availability.
  • Assist other trades personnel as needed to support their work activities.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Possess AWS Certification and skills in MIG, stick, and TIG welding, fabrication, and reading blueprints.

Working Environment

This role is physically demanding, involving work in a fabrication shop with exposure to loud noises and temperature changes. It requires working in a fast-paced, high-volume, quality-controlled environment, often in areas under construction, accessible only by OSHA-approved ladders or stairs. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is necessary. The incumbent must wear appropriate safety gear at all times, including a hard hat, safety glasses, OSHA-approved boots, and flame-retardant clothing.

Abilities

  • Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Relocate a 12-foot stepladder independently.
  • Work at heights up to 60 feet, maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
  • Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead routinely.
  • Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and ability to communicate in English.
  • Use ladders and tools safely within weight limits.
  • Recognize problems or potential safety issues.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems and synthesize information to form conclusions.
  • See details at close range and understand spoken information effectively.
