Overview

The Fabrication Welding Technician is responsible for a variety of welding duties, including performing multiple welding processes such as fusion welding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. They will handle layout and fabrication of precision weldments from blueprints, utilizing industry-standard fabrication methods. The role involves meeting demands and completing work orders in a timely manner, ensuring the availability and proper functioning of required items, and maintaining safety standards by addressing immediate safety concerns.

Experience & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

1. Repairing metal surfaces (e.g., doors, fences, gates, furniture, tools, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient use.
2. Installing various items such as backboards, railings, fences, and wiring trailer lights to complete projects safely and efficiently.
3. Maintaining shop, equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure safety and availability.
4. Coordinating with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
5. Requesting equipment and supplies to maintain inventory levels.
6. Assisting other trades personnel as needed to support their work activities.
7. Responding to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
8. Transporting items like tools, equipment, and supplies.
9. Proficiency in MIG, stick, and TIG welding, fabrication, and reading blueprints.

Working Environment

The role is physically demanding, requiring work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to loud noises and temperature variations. It involves working in high-paced, high-volume, and quality-controlled settings, often in areas under construction that may require O.S.H.A. approved ladders or stairs. Flexibility for work hours, including evenings and weekends, is necessary. Safety gear such as hard hats, safety glasses, flame-retardant clothing, and OSHA-approved footwear must be worn at all times.

Abilities

• Lifting at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
• Relocating a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
• Working at heights up to 60 feet, including climbing scaffolds and ladders.
• Performing routine physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
• Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills in English.
• Recognizing problems or potential safety issues.
• Applying general rules to specific problems and drawing conclusions from information.
• Seeing details at close range and understanding spoken information clearly.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding, fabrication, and design.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
