Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through PennDOT, seeks a skilled Welder to perform welding and fabrication on transportation equipment. You will weld, cut, repair and fabricate parts, including plow frames and related components, while maintaining safety and quality in a full-time shop setting.

Responsibilities include operating tools safely, performing mechanical tasks, and supporting equipment modification.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience operating welding equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment or structures.
• Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech welding program with eighteen months of related shop experience.
• An approved welder apprentice program or AWS D1.1 certificate accepted.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training allowed.

• Welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Repair department machinery including plow frames, blades, spreaders and related components.
• Fabricate replacement or custom parts to support equipment modification and repair needs.
• Operate power tools, air tools, and motorized equipment safely during welding and fabrication tasks.
• Perform minor mechanical work such as mounting and removing plow frames and chemical tanks.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area while following environmental and safety practices.

This role centers on welding, cutting, and fabrication work that keeps county equipment in safe operating condition. You will work with many types of metals and tools to complete repairs and build needed parts. As a Welder, you will perform the following duties:

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• There may be mandatory or unscheduled overtime associated with operational and seasonal needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
• Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
• Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
• A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
