Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Transportation is seeking a Welder to support road safety through welding and fabrication of transportation equipment. You will prepare metals, perform arc, acetylene, and MIG welding, and fabricate or repair components for a variety of transportation applications.

Qualifications

• Three years of welding experience or completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech welding program with eighteen months of related shop experience.
• Completion of an approved welder apprentice program.
• A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean metals for welding and layout materials for accurate cuts and fits.
• Perform structural and equipment welding using arc welding, acetylene welding, and MIG welding.
• Fabricate repair parts and equipment modifications for a variety of applications.

This position supports the safe and efficient operation of transportation equipment and structures through skilled welding and fabrication work. As a Welder, you will perform the following duties:

• Metal Preparation:Prepare and clean metals for welding and layout materials for accurate cuts and fits
• Welding Operations:Perform structural and equipment work using arc welding, acetylene welding, and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding
• Fabrication Work:Fabricate repair parts and equipment modifications for a variety of applications
• Equipment Repair:Repair frames, plow components, trailer parts, and similar transportation equipment
• Tool Operation:Operate power tools and air tools safely to support welding and fabrication tasks
• Safety Practices:Maintain a safe workspace and follow proper safety procedures during all duties

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Seasonal, full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• There may be mandatory or unscheduled overtime associated with operational and seasonal needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
• Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
• Completion of an approved welder apprentice program;or
• A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
