Job summary

The YMCA of Metro North in Saugus, MA is seeking a Welcome Center Associate to greet members, answer inquiries and guide visitors. You will be the primary contact for information, help with program details, handle financial transactions, and promote the Y mission.

Shifts include mornings, afternoons and evenings; 18+ years old; CPR/AED certification preferred; this on-site role offers a free family membership and opportunities to build community across the branch.

Qualifications

• Must have superior interpersonal and communications skills.
• Basic math, personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• Ability to build genuine relationships with participants and maintain a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet all members, staff and volunteers when entering the building and acknowledge them as they leave.
• Learn and use members’ names frequently.
• Promote the YMCA mission and programs in all interactions.
• Refer members to Y program staff or staff member when appropriate.
• Inform and involve members in other Y activities and volunteer opportunities.
• Connect members to others with similar needs to create small communities.
• Handle financial transactions and maintain a balanced cash till.
• Monitor facility use and ensure proper paperwork is completed.
• Maintain confidentiality of all member, employee and volunteer information.

Salary Range: $16.00 To $19.00 Hourly

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Membership Director, Welcome Center Staff welcomes and engages all people into the Y and serves as the primary point of contact for all information inquiries. The Welcome Center is the primary point of contact for members and those interested in membership and programs. The Welcome Center also provides a secure point of entry and handles the majority of financial transactions for the Branch. Candidates who are available to work on Saturday and/or Sunday are encouraged to apply.

Shifts Needed:

• Mornings 5:45am - 12pm
• Afternoons: 12pm-4pm
• Closing Shift: 4pm-8pm

*Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years old to work at the Welcome Center* Essential Functions:

• Greets all members, staff and volunteers when entering the building and wishes them well when exiting the building.
• Lears member’s names and uses them frequently.
• Promotes the Y mission and cause in all interactions.
• Conveys basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants and refers members as appropriate to Y program staff or staff member.
• Informs and involves members in other Y activities and volunteer opportunities.
• Connects members to other members with similar wants, needs, and interest to create small communities within and outside of the Y.
• Readily offers financial assistance in response to every program and membership inquiry.
• Maintains a balanced cash till and completes shift closeouts.
• Monitors facility use for members and authorized people only and assures all appropriate paperwork is complete.
• Maintains confidentiality of all member, employee and volunteer information and files.
• Be attentive at all times, there is always something to do.
• Seeks first to understand the other person’s point of view and remains calm in challenging situations.
• Responds to emergency situations according to YMCA practice and policy.

• Current CPR/AED certification or ability to become certified within first 60 days.
