West Hills Animal Hospital & 24hr Emergency Veterinary Center in Town of Huntington, NY is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our busy, 24-hour hospital. You will care for in-patients and assist doctors and technicians in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience.
• Compassionate and team-oriented.
• Ability to restrain animals and assist with procedures.

Responsibilities

• Caring for special needs borders such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.
• Restraining a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for the doctors and technicians
• Cleaning (Sweeping, Mopping, cages, dishes, garbage, surgical site, dental Suite, etc.)
• Administering oral medications
• Documentation of general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders
• Assisting with Er protocol, ensuring ER table is prepared for crashing patients
• Preparing surgical material in coordination with the surgical handbook (ensure materials are sterilized and prepared for procedures)
• Assisting LVTs with TPRs & blood pressures. examining incisions for cleanliness and closure
• Triaging emergency appointments in coordination with the ER doctor on-premises.
• Capturing various types of radiographs including but not limited to the thorax and abdominal views
