West Hills Animal Hospital & 24hr Emergency Veterinary Center in Huntington, NY, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for a full-time, on-site role in a fast-paced, compassionate hospital. You will support doctors and technicians, manage patient documentation, administer medications, and assist with radiographs and ER triage.

The position offers a stable schedule with a strong emphasis on patient care and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience.
• Must be able to stand, lift, and perform duties for a minimum of 8 hours.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Own transportation.

Responsibilities

• Caring for special needs patients such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics.
• Restrain a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for doctors and technicians.
• Cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, cages, dishes, garbage, surgical site, dental suite, etc.
• Administering oral medications.
• Documentation of general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders.
• Assist with ER protocol, ensuring ER table is prepared for crash patients.
• Prepare surgical material in coordination with the surgical handbook (sterilize and prepare materials).
• Assist LVTs with TPRs and blood pressures; examine incisions for cleanliness and closure.
• Triaging emergency appointments in coordination with the ER doctor on-premises.
• Capturing radiographs including thorax and abdomen views.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Caring for special needs borders such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.
