Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Patient Placement Coordinator RN to optimize admission criteria, bed placement and status for surgical admissions, transfers, and affiliates. You will collaborate with physicians, nursing, social work, and outside agencies to ensure timely decisions and accurate documentation in EPIC.

The role emphasizes weekend work (Fri–Sun) and ongoing staff education to improve utilization outcomes.

• Recent hospital experience in ICU, CCU, or strong Med/Surg.
• Knowledge of Commercial and Government Payer guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical necessity assessment to ensure accurate and timely patient status and bed assignment using hospital selected medical necessity criteria such as InterQual.
• Actively educates the health care team and physicians regarding the appropriate patient status and bed assignment.
• Completes all documentation and data entry requirements in EPIC.
• Communicates with outside agencies to ensure accurate information is received to evaluate if transfers are appropriate prior to patient arrival.
