Job summary

Shelter House in Alexandria, VA, seeks a Residential Coordinator (Sat/Sun, 5pm-1am) to provide 24-hour awake coverage for 20 efficiency apartments. You will function as first contact for client needs, handle crisis intervention, supervise front desk, and maintain a safe, supportive living environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and 2+ years in human services; preferred bachelor’s in human services. The role offers non-exempt status and benefits as described.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years in human services (mental health, homelessness, domestic violence).
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients and team.
• Strong verbal and written communication; evenings/weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe functioning of the shelter and a safe client environment.
• Monitor front desk, rounds, and building grounds.
• Maintain daily logs and document interactions.
• Collaborate with case managers to support service plans.
• Complete shift exchanges and report daily activities.
• Maintain Shelter House logs and policy compliance.
• Distribute household items and assist with basic needs.
• Perform residential cleaning and organize supplies.
• Conduct unit inspections and protect client confidentiality.
• Remain aware of emergency procedures and safety management.
• Support donations and volunteer activities; participate in staff trainings.
