Job summary

UPMC Mercy is seeking a Casual Phlebotomist to support inpatient and outpatient collections. The role requires weekend availability (Saturday-Sunday) with early morning shifts, and duties include phlebotomy, data entry, and clerical tasks under supervision.

Preferred candidates have inpatient phlebotomy experience, a high school diploma, and relevant certification. The position supports hospital operations and patient care across off-site locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
• Certification from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assistant program preferred.
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT/ASCP) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick.
• Transport specimens to the appropriate laboratory area following safety procedures.
• Enter demographic information and test orders in LIS accurately.
• Inform staff of any unusual or problematic incidents.
