Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience or education encouraged.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts and alternate weekends.
• Ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Interact courteously with laboratory customers and respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick or fingerstick; educate patients on collection procedures.
• Demonstrate reliability and judgment to prioritize department needs.
• Transport specimens to the proper lab area following safety protocols.
• Adhere to lab and hospital policies on procedures, safety and hygiene.
• Enter patient data and test orders accurately into systems; manage test charges and credits.
• Train new staff and students as assigned.
• Notify staff and pathologists of unusual incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following guidelines.
• Monitor supplies and use materials cost-effectively.
• May perform EKGs.
