Job summary

UPMC Hamot is seeking a Phlebotomist to accurately perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients. The role supports diagnosis and treatment by ensuring quality samples are collected and documented by trained staff under the supervision of Medical Technologists.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy patient care and specimen handling skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures.
• Transports specimens safely to the appropriate laboratory section following procedures.
• Enter demographic information and test orders into information systems; verify patient data and specimen identity.
• Trains and orients new employees, students and residents as applicable.
• Inform staff and pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
• Monitor supplies and use materials cost-effectively.
