Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Weekend Facilitator for Camp Surf in Imperial Beach, CA. The role focuses on delivering outdoor education and recreational programming for campers aged 7-17, including archery, climbing, canoeing, and hiking.

Responsibilities include leading activities, ensuring safety, maintaining equipment, and providing excellent customer service. Must be available 2-3 weekends per month; CPR/AED and First Aid certs required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with related training in science/education/recreation.
• At least 6 months of outdoor education or related experience.
• At least 1 year of experience working with children ages 7-17.
• Ability to observe, enforce safety, and apply camp policies to mitigate risk.
• Ability to lead and participate in outdoor activities for extended periods.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire from ARC/AHA/ISHI.

Responsibilities

• Lead activities such as archery, field games, and climbing tower with enthusiasm.
• Teach age-appropriate outdoor education and natural history to campers (ages 7-17).
• Develop and enforce operating rules for activities and maintain equipment/facilities.
• Supervise campers at all times and address camper needs to ensure safety and a positive experience.
• Prepare materials and plan activities; ensure safety and readiness of sessions.
• Adhere to safety rules and emergency procedures; maintain cleanliness and inventory; support camp projects.
• Communicate issues with Program Coordinators and Directors; perform other duties as assigned.
