Job summary

YMCA San Diego County is seeking an Outdoor Education Instructor for Camp Marston. The role involves delivering hands-on outdoor education, leading activities, and supervising overnight cabin groups during the January–May season.

You must live on-site and be ready to handle emergencies and camper needs. Responsibilities include planning lessons, ensuring safety, and participating in all camp activities to foster a positive environment for curious students aged 10–12.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and ability to read/write at required level.
Training in recreation or related field is a plus.
Experience with youth programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assumes full, 24-hour responsibility for a cabin group, including evenings and overnights.
Teaches outdoor education and natural history to 5th–6th graders with engaging lessons.
Leads activities such as archery, games, and climbing tower with safety.
Plans activities, ensures materials are ready, and maintains safe environments.
Participates in all camp activities and supports camper participation.
Follows safety rules, policies, and emergency procedures; communicates issues.
Maintains facilities and equipment, participates in camp chores and events.
