Job summary

YMCA of San Diego is seeking a Weekend Facilitator for Camp Surf in Imperial Beach, CA. The role delivers outdoor education and recreational programming for campers aged 7-17, leading activities such as archery, climbing, canoeing, and hiking.

You will ensure camper safety, maintain equipment, and foster a supportive camp community during weekend sessions. Responsibilities include teaching age-appropriate classes, supervising campers at all times, planning activities, and upholding camp safety

Qualifications

HS diploma or GED with related training in science, education, or recreation.
At least 6 months in outdoor education or related experience.
At least 1 year working with children ages 7-17.
Must have CPR/AED and First Aid for Adult and Child/Infant within 30 days of hire from an approved provider.
Ability to observe, assess, and respond to emergencies; strong leadership and safety focus.

Responsibilities

Lead activities such as archery, field games, and climbing tower with enthusiasm.
Teach outdoor education and natural history to campers aged 7-17.
Own assigned program areas, including rules, equipment, and facilities.
Supervise campers at all times and address camper needs promptly.
Plan activities, prepare materials, and ensure safety and learning goals.
Enforce safety rules and emergency procedures; maintain cleanliness and inventory.
Assist with camp chores and events; collaborate with program directors and staff.
