Job summary

Novant Health is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. The role operates on a weekend day schedule and supports sterile technique, instrument handling, and team coordination during procedures.

Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent; certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED required; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or 68D Military Training required.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current Surgical Tech Certification preferred.
• Additional Skills/Requirements: new graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire; ability to complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing; demonstrate customer service, verbal/nonverbal communication, interpersonal relationships, and time management.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care while complying with policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
• Maintains clinical and professional surgical services competencies.
• Assists in maintaining the security of medications.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Performs counts per policy.
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure.
• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
• Prepares sterile dressings.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists in cleaning of room and prepping room for next patient.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education

High School or GED

Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist)

New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire (if not certified)
