Job summary

WCIA 3 in Champaign, IL, part of Nexstar Media Group, is seeking a full-time Weekend Anchor / Multimedia Journalist to produce and anchor weekend newscasts, report three days a week, and be first in line to fill-in anchor other major newscasts.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong anchor skills, storytelling, enterprise reporting, and the ability to multi-task across platforms while maintaining solid news judgment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
• Two years television anchoring or reporting experience required.
• Strong vocal delivery, camera presence and clear enunciation.
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce content for multiple platforms (TV, internet, mobile).
• Enterprise and develop stories daily with management.
• Tell compelling stories using live shots, stand-ups, graphics, and social media.
• Organize material, determine angle, and write stories to editorial standards.
• Gather and verify information via interviews, observation and research.
• Build a network of sources to stay ahead of competitors.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job description

WCIA 3 is looking for a full-time Weekend Anchor / Multimedia Journalist to work for the top station in this market.

Our new weekend anchor will produce and anchor weekend newscasts; CTV to Linear on Saturdays, Sunday news, and will report three days a week. This position will also be first in line to fill-in anchor our other primary newscasts.

We`re seeking a candidate who is passionate about storytelling, able to connect with viewers, and craft memorable moments that bring stories and newscasts to life.

The candidate should have strong anchor skills, producing experience, leadership qualities, proven enterprising skills, solid news judgment, and the ability to multi-task. This position REQUIRES working weekends.

Essential Duties:

• Produce content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.
• Work with management to enterprise and develop stories daily
• Demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics, and use of digital and social media platforms
• Organize material, determine angle or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
• Gather and verify information regarding stories through interview, observation and research.
• Build network of sources who supply information that allows the Company to stay ahead of its competitors
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education
• Two (2) years television anchoring or reporting experience required
• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation
• Strong reporting skills
• Understand importance of social media
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills
• Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
• Operate newsroom computer systems

NON-UNION FULL-TIME HOURLY

Compensation:

$18 to $19 per hour - commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level
