Job summary

WCIA 3 in Champaign is seeking a full-time Weekend Anchor / Multimedia Journalist to produce and anchor weekend newscasts, with Saturday and Sunday duties and reporting three days a week. The role also serves as first in line to fill‑in on other major newscasts.

The ideal candidate will have strong anchor skills, reporting ability, enterprise storytelling, solid news judgment, and the willingness to work weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related field (equivalents accepted)
• Two years television anchoring or reporting experience required
• Strong vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation
• Proven reporting skills and social media savvy

Responsibilities

• Produce content for TV, internet, and mobile platforms
• Enterprise and develop stories daily with management
• Demonstrate storytelling using live shots, stand‑ups, and graphics
• Write stories per editorial standards and verify information via interviews and research
• Build and maintain a network of sources to stay ahead of competition

Job description

WCIA 3 is looking for a full-time Weekend Anchor / Multimedia Journalist to work for the top station in this market.

Our new weekend anchor will produce and anchor weekend newscasts; CTV to Linear on Saturdays, Sunday news, and will report three days a week. This position will also be first in line to fill-in anchor our other primary newscasts.

We' re seeking a candidate who is passionate about storytelling, able to connect with viewers, and craft memorable moments that bring stories and newscasts to life.

The candidate should have strong anchor skills, producing experience, leadership qualities, proven enterprising skills, solid news judgment, and the ability to multi-task. This position REQUIRES working weekends.

Essential Duties:

• Produce content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.


• Work with management to enterprise and develop stories daily


• Demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics, and use of digital and social media platforms


• Organize material, determine angle or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards


• Gather and verify information regarding stories through interview, observation and research.


• Build network of sources who supply information that allows the Company to stay ahead of its competitors


• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education


• Two (2) Years Television Anchoring Or Reporting Experience Required


• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation


• Strong reporting skills


• Understand importance of social media


• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills


• Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel


• Operate newsroom computer systems


• NON-UNION FULL-TIME HOURLY

Compensation:

$18 to $19 per hour - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
