Job summary

Avala in San Francisco is seeking an experienced graphics programmer to develop WebGPU rendering pipelines for point clouds, meshes, and Gaussian Splatting, and to build GPU compute shaders for real-time processing.

You will optimize rendering of datasets over 100M points, work on 4D data navigation, and contribute to Flutter WebGPU bindings and Three.js integration. The role offers competitive salary and equity, plus health coverage and team growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of graphics programming experience (WebGPU, WebGL, Vulkan, Metal, or DirectX)
  • Strong understanding of GPU architecture, shader programming (WGSL, GLSL), and rendering pipelines
  • Experience with 3D math — linear algebra, quaternions, projective geometry, spatial data structures
  • Familiarity with point cloud rendering or large-scale 3D visualization
  • Performance optimization mindset — profiling, GPU timing, memory management

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize WebGPU rendering pipelines for point cloud visualization, mesh rendering, and Gaussian Splatting
  • Build GPU compute shaders for real-time point cloud processing — frustum culling, level-of-detail, radix sorting
  • Implement multi-sensor fusion visualization — overlaying camera images, LiDAR point clouds, and radar data in a unified 3D scene
  • Optimize rendering performance for datasets with 100M+ points using buffer pooling, render bundle caching, and GPU-driven rendering
  • Build temporal navigation systems for 4D data — scrubbing through time-series sensor data at interactive frame rates
  • Contribute to the Dart/Flutter WebGPU bindings and Three.js integration layer
