Qualifications

  • Experience building dynamic, database-driven web applications (PHP or similar).
  • Basic SQL querying with MySQL or SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce integration with websites and lead forms.
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility and web performance best practices.

DescriptionSupervisor: Director of University Web Services Status: FT Hours : 8:30AM-5:00PM Job Location: (Longmeadow,Hybrid) Exempt (Yes/No): Yes JOB SUMMARY: The Web Developer contributes to the development, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the University’s web presence across multiple institutions, departments, and digital initiatives. This role works closely with the Director of University Web Services to build, enhance, and maintain websites, landing pages, and web applications that support marketing, recruitment, and institutional initiatives. The position combines full-stack web development responsibilities, including front-end implementation, CMS development, and integration with back-end systems and databases, along with cross-department collaboration and internal technical support. The Web Developer will also be cross-trained on core systems and processes to serve as backup support for critical web functions when needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Website Development & Maintenance Assist in maintaining and improving University websites, landing pages, and related web properties for usability, accessibility, SEO, and performance. Implement front-end features and components using modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript practices, with attention to maintainable, well-structured code. Implement content and structural updates within content management systems and custom-built platforms. Implement or assist with integrations, APIs, or data connections that support website functionality and lead capture systems Help test websites for functionality, cross-browser compatibility, WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility compliance, and mobile responsiveness. Assist in maintaining and improving accessible, ADA-compliant web experiences, identifying and implementing accessibility improvements across university web properties. Troubleshoot and resolve front-end, CMS, and integration-related issues across university web properties. Major University Website Redesign Project Play a major role in the front-end and structural development of an upcoming University website redesign. Translate design mockups into responsive, accessible web templates and components Help define and implement content structures, navigation systems, and reusable page layouts. Collaborate with the Director of University Web Services, Marketing, and other stakeholders to ensure design, brand, and user experience goals are met. Operational Support & Continuity Assist with day-to-day web requests from departments, faculty, and staff. Monitor and support website lead capture processes, troubleshooting form issues, and ensuring the successful delivery of submissions to connected systems. Support updates to time-sensitive content such as admissions, academic programs, and marketing initiatives. Participate in regular website reviews to identify broken links, outdated content, and UX issues. Learn core systems, workflows, and documentation to provide backup coverage for essential web operations during absences or emergencies. Collaboration & Communication Work with Marketing on web content presentation, landing pages, and campaign-related updates. Coordinate with IT and other technical staff when issues involve hosting, infrastructure, or integrations. Provide friendly, professional support and guidance to internal stakeholders requesting web updates. Documentation & Growth Contribute to the creation and maintenance of web process documentation and internal guides. Stay current with evolving web standards, accessibility requirements, front-end best practices, and emerging technologies such as AI-powered web tools and chatbot integrations. Participate in training and professional development related to web technologies and higher education digital trends. Attend trainings as required. Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Computer Science, Digital Media, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) Core Web Development Skills Foundational experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development Familiarity with content management systems (such as Drupal, WordPress, or similar platforms) Experience developing dynamic, database-driven web applications, including work with server-side technologies such as PHP, ColdFusion, or comparable frameworks Supporting Technical Skills Basic experience querying and working with relational databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or similar using SQL Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce and how they integrate with websites and lead capture forms Familiarity with web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508 guidelines Basic understanding of SEO and web performance best practices Professional Skills Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders Willingness to learn new systems and take ownership of assigned projects Preferred Qualifications Experience working on a website redesign or large-scale site restructure Familiarity with Drupal or other enterprise CMS platforms Ability to create or modify web-ready graphics (cropping, resizing, optimization, simple layouts) using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar Experience working with templates, themes, or component-based design systems Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows Exposure to analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Tag Manager Experience in a higher education or multi-stakeholder environment General awareness of emerging web technologies, including AI/LLM-powered tools and chatbot integrations, and interest in evaluating how they may apply to website experiences Key Traits for Success in This Role Proactive, punctual, and dependable, with a strong sense of follow-through Comfortable balancing independent work with collaboration Curious and eager to grow technical skills Patient and service-oriented when working with stakeholders Organized and able to manage multiple small projects at once Application Materials Applicants are encouraged to include links to a portfolio, GitHub repository, or examples of websites or web projects they have contributed to.
