JOB SUMMARY

The Web Content & Maintenance Specialist supports MIC-managed websites (multiple public sites, the OneStThomas intranet, and WordPress sites), by responding to reported issues, performing proactive maintenance, testing new functionality, and providing user training and documentation.

This role is responsible for ongoing website maintenance, including triaging help desk tickets: taking action, responding, routing to others, or escalating as needed. Responsibilities also include proactive upkeep in the content management system (CMS), such as removing unused images, fixing broken links, and retiring outdated pages. The specialist participates in or leads content clean-up projects, conducts testing and QA reviews for new sections or websites, and performs daily workflow reviews, using a QA checklist to assess changes made by others on public sites.

In support of colleagues across the University, this position will create and maintain a training curriculum and deliver training on the intranet and public sites. Training will be tailored to individual needs and may include custom documentation for web modules or tools used by specific individuals or teams. In support of training and ongoing improvement, this position creates and maintains documentation on how to use the back-end web systems, what layout options are possible, testing and quality standards, and relevant best practices.

The Web Content & Maintenance Specialist reports to the IA-UX Content Manager, who is responsible for defining the structure and layout of new and updated websites and sections. This role supports that Manager and University partners by assisting with web content projects, including creating sitemaps, wireframes, and page tables, then building or adapting webpages in the CMS using provided content.

As a member of the Marketing, Insights, and Communications web team, the Web Content & Maintenance Specialist works with developers, system owners, and content owners to ensure the quality of the MIC-managed websites. This position is ideal for someone who can think quickly, make informed decisions, problem-solve independently, and take prompt action in a fast-paced environment.

This position has the option to work on campus or at home, with the expectation that employees come to campus 1-2 times a month for meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage ongoing maintenance for all MIC-managed sites by responding to help desk tickets and emails, performing proactive maintenance (such as fixing broken links, retiring outdated pages, and content clean-up projects), and daily review of workflows.
  • Provide user training and documentation on using the web systems, layout options, and relevant best practices.
  • Assist with web content projects by helping to create sitemaps, wireframes, and page tables for new or revised sections and build the webpages with provided content.
  • Support and evolve standards and testing criteria across the MIC-managed websites and provide testing/QA review of new sections or websites.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, information technology, digital media, or a related field
    • Three years of experience managing website content, performing website maintenance, or working with a web CMS (content management system), and some experience training or teaching others

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience developing and delivering training materials or conducting training sessions for non-technical users
    • Experience managing content in Cascade CMS, WordPress, or a similar content management system
    • Experience in QA testing for websites (such as reviewing workflows, checking broken links, or testing new sections)
    • Basic understanding of HTML & CSS (for troubleshooting)
    • Familiarity with basic UX principles, sitemaps, and wireframing tools
    • Familiarity with digital/web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA) and best practices for digital content

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.

    HOW TO APPLY

All interested candidates must apply online at https://www.stthomas.edu/jobs/. Follow the instructions to complete an online application which includes creating or updating an applicant profile, uploading a resume, and completing a job specific application.

This position requires someone who can work independently, stay organized across multiple priorities, think analytically, and exercise good judgment about when to escalate issues. Since those qualities can be difficult to ascertain from a resume, please include a cover letter that has examples of how you have demonstrated these skills in your previous work. Your reply will also give us an indication of your ability to respond to help desk tickets, one of the job responsibilities.
