Job summary

Ameren Illinois is offering a full‑time summer Meteorology Intern role designed to apply weather science to crisis management and utility operations. You will monitor forecasts, prepare briefings, analyze data, and support situational awareness in a collaborative team environment.

The internship provides hands‑on experience with weather visualization, BI tools, and AI applications while exploring how weather informs outage management and response strategies. Hybrid work options may be available.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in meteorology or related discipline.
• Coursework in meteorology, atmospheric science, forecasting, climatology, or related fields.
• Familiarity with National Weather Service products, radar imagery, and forecast data.
• Interest in severe weather, emergency management, crisis management, or utility operations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily weather forecasts, watches, warnings, advisories, and other weather products that may impact utility operations.
• Assist with the preparation of daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
• Learn to analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data to identify potential operational impacts.
• Support weather monitoring during severe weather and emergency events.
• Assist with research related to historical weather events, storm trends, and post‑event analyses.
• Support efforts to correlate weather information with operational and outage data.
• Assist with enhancing weather intelligence capabilities within the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
• Research emerging weather technologies, forecasting tools, and decision‑support resources used in utilities.
• Collaborate with team members across crisis management, emergency preparedness, operations, and business continuity.
• Participate in training, exercises, after‑action reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
