Job summary

Ameren Illinois is seeking a motivated Meteorology Intern to support the Crisis Management team. This internship provides hands-on experience applying meteorological principles within the electric utility industry while learning how weather intelligence supports operational decision-making, emergency preparedness, and storm response.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, climatology, geography, environmental science, emergency management, or related field.
• Interest in weather analysis and emergency management.
• Familiarity with weather data visualization and BI tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily weather forecasts, watches, warnings, advisories, and other products impacting utility operations.
• Assist with daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
• Learn to analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data to identify operational impacts.
• Support weather monitoring during severe weather and emergencies.
• Assist with research on historical weather events and post-event analyses.
• Correlate weather information with outage data and operational metrics.
• Help enhance weather intelligence capabilities within dashboards and AI tools.
• Research emerging weather technologies and decision-support resources.
