Job summary

Ameren Illinois is seeking a motivated Meteorology Intern to support the Crisis Management team. This full-time summer internship offers hands-on experience applying meteorological principles within the electric utility industry, learning how weather intelligence supports operational decision-making, emergency preparedness, and storm response.

You will monitor weather conditions, prepare briefings, analyze forecast information, and contribute to weather visualization and AI-enabled dashboards.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, climatology, geography, environmental science, emergency management, or related discipline.
• Coursework in meteorology or related fields preferred.
• Familiarity with weather forecasting principles and meteorological analysis.
• Interest in severe weather, emergency management, or utility operations.
• Experience through coursework, research projects, student organizations, or internships involving weather analysis or environmental sciences.
• Exposure to GIS, Power BI, Python or analytical tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily weather forecasts and weather products affecting operations.
• Prepare daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
• Analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data.
• Support weather monitoring during severe weather and emergencies.
• Research historical weather events, storm trends, and post-event analyses.
• Assist with enhancing weather intelligence capabilities within the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
• Collaborate with crisis management, emergency preparedness, operations, and business continuity functions.
• Participate in training, exercises, after-action reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Complete special projects as assigned.
