Job summary

American University Washington College of Law is seeking an Operations Assistant to support Conference & Event Services. This on-campus, part-time role reports to the Director and requires 20 hours per week, with shifts between 6:00 am and 11:30 pm.

Responsibilities include event setup, space management, and providing high-level customer service during events. Applicants must be enrolled as AU students, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and be able to lift 25–75 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Must be a driven student with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Detail-oriented with accuracy and precision.
  • Able to lift items up to 25–75 lbs.
  • Report to AU Washington College of Law for scheduled shifts and trainings.
  • Flexibility to work 5–20 hours per week between 6:00 am–11:30 pm.
  • Pre-employment background check required.

Job Description:

Summary: The Operations Assistant(s) (OA) will report directly to theDirector of Conference & Event Services at AU WashingtonCollege of Law (WCL). OAs are responsible for completing event setups at the Washington College of Law campus as well general eventsupport. Operations Assistants will support Washington College ofLaw Conference & Event Services operations before, during, andafter weekday business hours.

Essential Functions:
  • Completing all event related set ups at WCL according to theprovided set up diagram and EMS worksheet.
  • Understand operational capabilities and best usage of themeeting space.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to all guests andevent attendees when working an event.
  • Report any problems or concerns with the event or any resourcesto the WCL Director of Conference & Event Services.
  • Assist with other CES event related tasks as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • Part-time.
  • 20 hours per week.
Salary Range:
  • $18.40 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Must be a driven student who demonstrates strong interpersonal,communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a teamenvironment to perform all necessary job responsibilities withaccuracy and efficiency with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must be detail-oriented to perform job functions with accuracyand precision.
  • Must be able and willing to lift items up to 25 - 75lbs.
  • Must be able to report to AU Washington College of Law for allscheduled shifts and trainings.
  • Ability to represent AU and WCL by means of a pleasant andhelpful disposition, a positive attitude, and quick response.
  • Successful candidates must be in good academic standing with acumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • This position is contingent upon the successful completion of apre-employment background check.
  • Flexibility to work during the day, nights, and weekends for 5- 20 hours per week between 6:00 am - 11:30 pm.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
  • The number of scheduled work hours will vary each week basedupon the event scheduled on campus.
  • Must be able to provide at least 20 hours of availability eachweek.
  • Must be able to attend all position related trainings andmeetings.
  • Must be willing to complete other event related tasks asdirected by full time Conference & Event Services staff.
  • Be able to start working on Monday August 31st, 2026.
