Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Entry Level Waterfront Structural Engineer to join our Oakland or Walnut Creek office. You will assist with structural analysis, design, and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber waterfront structures under supervision, and begin taking ownership of defined tasks such as finite element modeling and inspection support.

The role requires a Civil or Structural Engineering degree and up to 4 years of experience; an EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 0-3 years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 2–4 years of experience, also considered.
• Working knowledge of structural engineering, including design and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber waterfront structures.
• Ability to perform finite element static and dynamic structural modeling; understanding of waterfront structural systems, material performance, and rehabilitation considerations.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, structural analysis software such as STAAD or SAP, and Microsoft Office.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Growing understanding of applicable structural design codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists with structural analysis, design, and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber waterfront structures
• Assists with preparation of design concepts, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs
• Performs finite element static and dynamic structural modelling.
• Coordinates plan details with drafting technicians
• Works closely with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects
• Assists with inspection of waterfront structures and preparation of inspection reports
• Learns Moffatt & Nichol quality and documentation standards
