Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is offering a Waterfront Structural Engineering Internship for Summer 2027 in Oakland, CA. This temporary full-time position supports project teams in engineering, planning, CAD/BIM, and related disciplines, producing basic drawings, models, and calculations under close supervision.

The intern will gain hands-on experience with waterfront facilities, assist with design tasks, and participate in field inspections and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Working toward a structural/civil engineering degree with emphasis on structural topics.
• Entering final year of a qualifying bachelor’s program after summer employment; master’s student preferred.
• Completed coursework in engineering materials, structural analysis, and at least one design course.

Responsibilities

• Assist in analysis and design of waterfront structures and related maritime projects.
• Prepare basic drawings, models, calculations, and data sets under supervision.
• Support project teams across disciplines and help with plan development and reports.
• Participate in field investigations and site inspections as required.
• Contribute to construction administration tasks and coordination with design teams.
