Ridgewood YMCA is a health, wellness, and fitness organization based out of 112 Oak Street, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Our mission is to strengthen the community through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. We offer a variety of services, including fitness classes, swim lessons, and wellness initiatives, to support the health and wellbeing of our members.

Role Description

This is a part-time seasonal on-site role for a Waterfront Lifeguard located in Ridgewood, NJ. The Waterfront Lifeguard will be responsible for monitoring and supervising swimmers to ensure their safety, enforcing all pool and waterfront rules and regulations, providing emergency care and treatment as needed, and maintaining a safe and clean aquatic environment. Additional tasks include maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and collaborating with the aquatics team to provide a high-quality experience for all members and guests.

Qualifications

• Possess skills in monitoring and ensuring the safety of swimmers
• Thinks, communicates, and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors;
• promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
• Attends and participates in all waterfront trainings to ensure skills and routines are maintained
• Provide proper care utilizing American Red Cross training to address any emergency as a part of the Emergency Action Plan in coordination with the Parks team
• Document and retain incident reports and implement safety plan accordingly
• Complete secondary responsibilities as assigned eg. swim tests, beach grooming, patron communication, training and managing play structure
• Helps maintain inventory and recommends purchases
• Participates in emergency drills and procedures to the highest level that training and situation permits
