The Corman Harriman Outdoor Center is an ideal destination for anyone looking for hiking, paddling, and camping opportunities in the heart of Harriman State Park at Breakneck Pond. Harriman State Park, New York's second largest park, is located 30 miles from Manhattan and accessible by public transportation.

The Corman Harriman Outdoor Center (CHOC) Lifeguard is responsible for all aspects of the facility operations as assigned by the Camp Manager. Duties include but are not limited to: monitoring waterfront, acting as an onsite first responder in case of an emergency, enforcing waterfront and camp rules during and after swimming hours, attending to the needs of members and visitors, daily cleaning and maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and performing any additional tasks as assigned.

What You'll Be Doing At AMC

  • Assist guests and visitors in a positive manner.
  • Respond to any problems or special requests with a professional demeanor.
  • Interact with guests regarding local information, lodge amenities, organizational efforts, and programs.
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the designated swimming area.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of medical services.
  • Monitor and manage waterfront capacity limits.
  • Daily maintenance and upkeep of camp as assigned, to include housekeeping and groundskeeping.
  • Guest check in and daily needs.
  • Maintain and promote AMC standards in all forms of hospitality.
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

What AMC Is Looking For

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must meet all NYDOH standards for camp staff.
  • Past experience in lifeguarding, camp operations, hospitality, and/or work in the outdoors is preferred.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule.
  • Exceptional public service skills and a commitment to the mission of the AMC.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record to operate AMC vehicles.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance tasks.
  • Success in performing a wide range of assigned tasks.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, highly flexible, adaptable, and resourceful.
  • Certified in Advance Lifesaving with 18 months experience preferred.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED with waterfront skills module.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record to operate AMC vehicles.

Physical abilities needed: Successfully pass swimming test, ability to operate standard maintenance equipment. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds at the Lodge and in the backcountry. Ability to travel safely in the backcountry in all weather conditions.

Salary range: $16.58/Hourly

External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills, and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
