Job summary

American Water is seeking a Utility Person to operate and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection facilities. You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and record work on mains, valves, hydrants, pumps and service lines to ensure reliable service.

Candidates must have a GED/HS equivalency, PA DOT certification, and a PA driver’s license. Work includes on-call requirements, exposure to wastewater and chemicals, and adherence to safety procedures and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• GED/High School graduate or state recognized education equivalency certificate.
• PA DOT Certification required.
• Valid PA Driver's license.
• Exposure to potentially hazardous wastewater treatment and laboratory chemicals.
• Working in environments with fumes, dust and odors.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, installs and repairs water distribution and wastewater collection system facilities including water mains, valves, hydrants and service lines, sewer lines, manholes and service laterals, and pumping and flow control facilities.
• Responds to customer service inquiries including service disruptions, service line problems and grinder pump malfunctions.
• Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per company procedure.
• Performs new service activity including tap installation and records keeping.
• Monitors plant operations, water distribution and wastewater collection systems and makes adjustments as directed to control their operations.
• Operates and maintains plant process equipment as directed.
• Completes forms, sketches, field notes and uses maps/records; maintains records and tools/equipment.
• Performs maintenance and light construction duties including repairs/improvements to physical plant and grounds; performs facility mark-out per Pennsylvania One-Call.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
