Job summary

Riley Co. in Kansas is seeking a Utility Technician to operate and maintain county water and wastewater facilities. You will perform inspections, collect water samples, read meters, and respond to alarms while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a Class C license, and relevant water/wastewater certificates. Advanced training and experience with maintenance and testing are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Advanced technical training preferred.
• A valid Class C Driver’s License is required.
• Class 1 water certificate within 2 years.
• Class 1 wastewater certificate within 1 year.
• Confined space certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect pump stations, lift stations, treatment lagoons and sewer plants.
• Read meters monthly and collect water samples daily.
• Respond to alarm systems and perform maintenance on equipment.
• Repair or initiate repairs of pumps, motors, and water/wastewater infrastructure.
• Maintain files for maintenance schedules, testing results and readings.
• Assist with engineering inspection work and project coordination.
• Document and track utility locations and maintain safety compliance.
