Job summary

Western Virginia Water Authority is seeking a Community Systems Supervisor for Franklin County to oversee daily operations of water/wastewater facilities, distribution systems, and staff.   • Basic knowledge in using hand tools, sockets, wrenches, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates the work of assigned employees.
  • Takes an active role in employee development by establishing individual goals and objectives, providing resources to achieve them, and evaluating performance.
  • Recommends appointments and promotions within the assigned area.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repairs of plants, distribution and collection systems, lift stations, water wells and tanks, equipment, and requisitions of supplies and materials.
  • Assists in preparing monthly work schedules and reports to state and local authorities.
  • Helps train staff in operation of water and wastewater treatment processes and prepares them for certification exams.
  • Records readings from meters and instruments, turns water service on or off for nonpayment, and repairs leaks around meters.
  • Investigates water quality issues such as no water, muddy water, low pressure, or low flow at residential, commercial, and distribution system locations.
  • Detects water main breaks, performs leak detection, and checks equipment functionality at treatment plants, water facilities, and lift stations.
  • Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other equipment as needed to meet changing operational conditions.
  • Collects samples and conducts routine tests as necessary, inspects buildings and equipment to identify maintenance and repair needs, and informs management of major repair requirements.
  • Coordinates and communicates with internal and external entities required by the Authority.
  • Makes and maintains operational records, uses Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and is subject to a twenty‑four (24) hour call schedule and weekend shifts as assigned.
