Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners invites applications for a Utilities Plant Operator to operate and oversee advanced water reclamation, potable water supply, and solids management systems, ensuring compliance with Florida codes and local rules. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, willingness to rotate shifts (nights, weekends, holidays), and strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).

A Florida Class C license is preferred or pursued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Florida Driver's License required.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to respond to emergencies to protect public health and safety.
• Strong computer skills with standard software (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency situations to protect public health and safety.
• Prepares and maintains accurate operations and maintenance records.
• Collects and evaluates water/wastewater data for operational adjustments.
• Oversees inspections of facility equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Performs routine and non-routine control adjustments per instructions and regulations.
• Operates and maintains department equipment and test equipment.
• Maintains knowledge of Florida Administrative Code and regulatory requirements.
• Performs laboratory analysis and interprets results to guide process changes.
• May lead and train other staff or trainees.
• Coordinates with Reclaimed Water staff to ensure uninterrupted service.
