Job summary

The Broward County Government is seeking qualified candidates for Treatment Plant Operator in the Water & Wastewater Services Division. The role involves operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plant equipment, collecting samples, adjusting chemicals, and ensuring compliance with state and county regulations.

Ideal applicants have six months of related experience or completion of a Pre-Apprenticeship program, and must obtain a Class C license within two years.

Qualifications

• Requires six (6) months experience in operation or maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical equipment similar to that used in treatment plants.
• Completion of Pre-Apprenticeship program in Water Operations or Wastewater Operations via Junior Achievement of South Florida is acceptable alternate.
• Must obtain Class C Water or Wastewater Plant Operator License within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment related to wastewater treatment plant processes and monitor system performance.
• Perform routine to complex maintenance and repairs on water equipment and facilities.
• Collect water samples, perform chemical adjustments, and record lab data for performance evaluation.
• Record daily pump readings, flows, pressures and chemical usage.
• Check plant equipment, troubleshoot problems, and write work orders when needed.
• Compute work orders and compile statistics for reports.
