Job summary

American States Utility Services, Inc. seeks a Treatment Facilities Superintendent to oversee the operation and maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment plants on military installations.

You will supervise personnel, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive preventive maintenance programs using CMMS while coordinating with the Utility Manager. The role requires extensive industry experience, strong leadership, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree desirable.
• Extensive management, operation and maintenance experience in water/wastewater.
• Seven years in the water/wastewater industry, with ≥4 years in treatment.
• Licenses for water/wastewater or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Cross Connection operator license if required.
• Strong verbal and written English communication.
• Proficient with computerized office equipment.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• OSHA safety training compliance required.
• Excellent math skills.
• Experience with SCADA and related software.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, chemistry and biology.
• Knowledge of plumbing; detect unusual/unsafe conditions.
• Understanding of treatment plant operation principles.
• Operational knowledge of valves, pumps and motors.
• Regulatory knowledge of federal/state/local laws for water/wastewater.

Responsibilities

• Supervise operations for water and/or wastewater systems.
• Oversee water treatment, wells, pumps, and purification equipment operations.
• Oversee wastewater system operations including lift stations and treatment facilities.
• Schedule daily operations of personnel.
• Ensure compliance with EPA/NPDES and other regulations.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs using CMMS.
• Lead safety meetings and maintain safety documentation.
• Maintain water quality monitoring plans and regulatory plans.
• Oversee reporting for compliance such as monthly/annual reports.
• Monitor plant processes via instruments, SCADA, and logs.
• Analyze data and prepare exhibits for Utility Manager.
• Prepare system maps for sampling and flushing programs.
• Develop employee relations and evaluate personnel performance.
• Review work orders, requisitions, and invoices; report anomalies.
• Oversee O&M contracts and external contractors as needed.
• Assist budget development and monitoring.
• Respond to customer inquiries and communicate with officials.
• Maintain open communication with stakeholders and ensure continuous service.
• Foster employee development and training.
• Travel as needed; uphold open-door policy.
