Job summary

American States Utility Services, Inc. contracts with the federal government to provide water and wastewater services on military installations across the United States, operating, maintaining, renewing, and constructing new systems for the benefit of nearly 350,000 personnel and their families.

The role emphasizes hands-on maintenance, inspections, and customer interaction, with opportunities to operate heavy equipment and support outage notifications while adhering to safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain state required water and/or wastewater training permits within 90 days if applicable.
• Must possess and keep current a valid Driver’s License issued by the state where employed.
• Must be able to obtain applicable Commercial Driver’s Permit within six months and Commercial Driver’s License within one year of hire date.
• Must pass Federal OSHA, US Army Corps of Engineers, and/or State Mandated Safety training with annual refreshers.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, performs activities related to water and wastewater system maintenance, including water quality and water supply.
• Inspects, installs, repairs, replaces, tests and certifies water mains, water services, water meters, hydrants, backflow devices and other related water system assets.
• Inspects, installs, repairs, and replaces sewer lines, lateral cleanouts, manholes, collection mains; operates video equipment on sewer lines to determine system deficiencies.
• Inspects sewer lift stations; ensures SCADA alarms are communicating properly; conducts visual inspections of wet wells and pump cycling and float conditions.
• Responds to Service Orders related to line locations; marks water and wastewater infrastructure and near emergency generator assemblies.
• Performs customer support activity; interacts with the public in a professional manner.
• Notifies customers of scheduled and emergency outages.
• Develops skills and becomes proficient at interpreting technical documents, blueprints, system maps and standards.
• Reads meters manually and/or using automated equipment.
• Responds quickly and accurately to service requests.
• May operate heavy machinery including dump truck, Vactor truck, backhoe, during maintenance.
• Performs basic preventive maintenance of heavy machinery; greasing, fluid checks, etc.
• May analyze pump equipment operation and monitor water supply and wastewater operations.
• May execute System Flushing, Cross-connection, Spill Response, and Preventative Maintenance programs.
• Timely completes work orders and paperwork, manually and digitally.
• May operate leak detection equipment and analyze data.
• May perform routine sampling of water and wastewater.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
