Job summary

City of Johnson City in Tennessee is seeking a Water/Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic I to perform intermediate skilled mechanical tasks at the water treatment and wastewater plants and pumping facilities. Work includes routine maintenance, installation and repairs under supervision.

The role requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, ability to read sketches and diagrams, lift heavy equipment, and adhere to safety rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, plus maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater plant equipment preferred.
• Ability to interpret sketches, plans and diagrams.
• Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance on utility booster stations, reservoirs, pressure valves and related equipment.
• Installs, operates, maintains and repairs mechanical equipment at the wastewater, water treatment, pumping stations and reservoirs.
• Picks deep well pumps for maintenance, repairs centrifugal pumps, installs bearings and shafts in motors, repairs air compressors and valves.
• Renews bearing seals and installs air lines.
• Assists in maintenance and repair of pumps and chemical feeders, installs/replaces gauges and pressure switches on panels.
• Inspects pumping stations for proper operation and repair as needed.
• Troubleshoot electric motor controls.
• Must be able to mow and run a weed eater.
• Paints facilities and equipment as required.
• Performs related tasks as required.
