Job summary

The City of Murfreesboro is seeking a water/wastewater maintenance worker to perform heavy manual labor in the repair, construction, maintenance and inspection of water, re-purified water, and wastewater systems. This safety-sensitive position requires effective communication in English and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities include removing old services, digging around utilities, repairing leaks, maintaining equipment, and participating in standby duties during nights, weekends,

Qualifications

High school graduation or GED required.
Experience in municipal water/re-purified water distribution systems and wastewater collection preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
CPR and First Aid certification within 12 months from date of employment.

Responsibilities

Communicate in spoken and written English to ensure safe operations.
Remove old/damaged water and sewer services and replace per codes.
Gather equipment, parts and materials needed to complete daily tasks.
Assist the operator by observing excavation safety.
Dig around marked and unmarked utilities with hand tools to prevent damage.
Repair leaks on main lines, hydrants, and service lines.
Set up signs, cones, and safety equipment to create a safe work zone.
Standby duties including night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
