Job Description
The Project Engineer is a professional with 10-15 years of experience. This individual will design and/or manage a variety of infrastructure projects (owned by municipalities and local school districts) and will report directly to the principal. Such projects shall include roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Act as the client manager for one or more municipalities or other public agencies, serving as the single point of contact between the firm and the client. Supervise and coordinate all projects performed in the firm on behalf of the client, ensuring client satisfaction.
- Develop or implement engineering solutions to help clients improve and maintain their infrastructure, including:
- Design transportation, utility, facility, or hydraulic systems or structures using computer-aided design tools.
- Calculate load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
- Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to assess project feasibility.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data.
- Conduct studies of traffic patterns or environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess potential project impacts.
- Ensure all design activities comply with environmental, safety, and governmental regulations.
- Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies.
Attend regular public meetings conducted by municipal clients in the capacity of Municipal Engineer or Land Use Board Engineer. Prepare and present reports on topics such as bid proposals, project status, and developmental reviews.Provide technical advice to clients regarding design, construction, or capital program modifications.Support field activities of construction inspection staff, including providing timely data, reviewing shop drawings, and client coordination.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Municipal Engineering experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to make public presentations.
- Problem-solving skills, including data collection, analysis, and conclusion drawing for client and team presentations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design software.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Occasional fieldwork in outdoor weather conditions. Frequent and prolonged computer use. May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
