Job summary

Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) in Pensacola, FL, is seeking an entry-level Utility Service Technician to learn the skills required for semi-skilled work in water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The role offers on-the-job training and progression under supervision.

The position involves assisting with system operation, installation, repair, and customer service, with a focus on safety and career development within ECUA’s training program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; documentation after offer.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Basic level of computer knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with operation and maintenance of ECUA’s water distribution and wastewater systems.
• Install water services: tapping main, install tubing, connect to meter box.
• Repair water main breaks, leaks, and meters.
• Assist with emergency water shutdowns and maintenance of valves, hydrants, and meters.
• Turn water services on/off for customers.
• Operate and troubleshoot residential AMR meters.
• Record meter readings for billing purposes.
• Assist with installation of sewer laterals from main to property line.
• Assist with repair/maintenance of gravity and force mains.
• Use ECUA’s electronic mapping system and manage work orders.
• Assist with utility locates using GPR and other equipment.
• Operate backhoe, trencher, service truck, pumps, and other equipment.
• Respond to customer complaints and communicate with customers.
• Use GIS laptop and collect GPS points.
• Perform small road restorations using asphalt and concrete.
• Fill holes with sand for restoration.
• Learn job material via on-the-job training.
• All other duties as assigned.
