Job summary

Emerald Coast Utilities Authority serves the Fleming Island area with water distribution systems and hydrant maintenance. The Hydrant Service Technician Trainee role provides on-the-job training and a formal career progression program, under supervision from senior technicians.

Trainees gain experience installing, testing and maintaining fire hydrants, valves and related infrastructure. The program includes required certifications within 24 months and opportunities for advancement within ECUA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Must respond to all emergency work call-outs beyond assigned shift.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, repair and field testing of fire hydrants to ensure proper operations.
• Assist with inspections and evaluation of hydrants for repair or replacement.
• Use power and hand tools to repair hydrants and components.
• Assist with raising, lowering and relocation of hydrants for clearance and access.
• Assist with flushing of the potable water system and hydrant operation/maintenance.
• Assist with taps on water mains and valve insertions.
• Learn to read manuals and safety data sheets; work under on-the-job training.
